So, you know, if you were to sell 158 million game consoles. You're likely to get good at making a controller or two. And I am referring to the one and only Sony. In recent years, Sony has been setting their sights on the PC gaming market. Have you noticed that?

Something unique about the Dualsense Edge is that it is a pro controller you'll likely only have to buy once! And something you can't say for the rest of them. And you'll see why I say that if you stick around.

So first, for those who need to become more familiar with the Playstation dualsense edge. Let's run through my top 5 favourite design aspects & features… and then get into the next level of PC gaming upgrades that Sony has just introduced.

Back buttons

Of course, no pro gaming controller is complete without buttons on the back. And with the dualsense edge. Not only do you get these nice solid detachable metal paddles. But also get these shorter metal levers.

I use a combination of both. The back buttons are mappable in the software…and there is a little trick you can do with these to adjust what they do mid-game, which could be really useful if used correctly.

Replaceable thumbsticks

Something I know many games will appreciate about the Dualsense Edge is the interchangeable thumb stick caps. You classic PlayStation style, a short and more rounded textured cap. And a tall option that can help you perform faster with smaller movements.

And in the new PC software. You can expand on this even more. You'll see in a minute

Deadshot triggers & haptics

You'll if you're a pro. difference between life and death, first and second place when gaming can ultimately come down to the millisecond.

The dualsense edge does have an adjustment switch on the back to change the range of travel on the triggers.

So you can have that instant trigger action or set the trigger pull to the long and get the more gradual acceleration you'll want for racing games, for example.

But, once again, you can take this to the next level in software. And side note: these triggers have dedicated haptics, separate from the vibration motors in the grips…and can be modified in the new software.

Replaceable sticks

Something almost inevitable, regardless of the gamepad you use, if you're a serious gamer… is that one day, maybe not today, not tomorrow, but maybe soon… you'll encounter the dreaded stick drift.

Quite often, when this happens, it's not even worth fixing if it's bad. And It's just easier to buy a new controller.

Well, I said in the intro that this is a pad you'll only have to buy once. It is the fact that the Dualsense Edge has a quick-release system for the entire stick module. And a new one only costs you £20.

But, if you experience some minor stick drift, there is an even easier way to solve the Stick drift problem if it occurs on this pad. Which we'll come to.

Case & accessories

So, the Dualsense Edge is the complete package. But, there's a deal sweetener. The hard shell carry case with the flap at the back opens up a space for charging the Controller whilst in the case.

Sony also provides a premium braided cable and cable locking clip. So when you're locked into a gaming session. Your pad is, too.

Customisable curves

Let's start with the control stick sensitivity curves. You can be really creative here. Let's say you want to get good at 360 no scopes.

You can go in and set your aim to stick to a quick preset. And even adjust the dead zone if you are getting a little bit of stick drift.

Use it to desensitise your aim a little. And you can also tweak the presents to amplify the effects.

A game changer is that you can dial in specific sensitivities per stick, and if you use the following trick I'm about to show you, you could set up particular sensitivities for weapons you like to use. And hit swap between them mid-game

Hot swap mid-game

So once you've set up one of your 4 presets, it's linked to the shortcuts button and one of the face buttons.

These are for different genres, like racing, shooter, and immersive single-player games.

But let's say you only play one game—for example, hell divers 2. There's nothing to stop you from setting up specific weapon profiles.

You can use the quick shortcut combo when you pick up that gun.

These are stored locally on the pad. So even if you jump between PC and PS5, they'll still work. You've got to admit. This feature is nice.

Keymapping buttons

So, with the edge, you can give yourself even more of an edge with the back buttons. The great thing about the Playstation Accessories app is all the buttons are remappable.

These presets are saved locally on the Controller itself. So this does mean you won't need to go into game settings and switch them up even across different games.

Again, you could use these tactically if you have different play styles in one game.

Sensitivity triggers

So, for me personally. When I'm playing slower-paced and more cinematic single-player story games. The haptics add another dimension to the gameplay, and within the PlayStation app, you can amp this up for the triggers and grips.

Or, if you want to, you can dial them down or switch them off entirely. But what's great is, like Neo said in The Matrix. It's "choice."

Bonus

So, those are the main features you need to know about the app. But I have saved a few bonus features you PC gamers might appreciate knowing about. Because I'm assuming if you've made it this far… you're probably seriously considering a dualsense.

The is an audio jack on the dualsense edge controller itself.

So, you can go into your PC audio settings and set the audio to pass through the Controller. So, if you have some studio monitors like these. You can just wire them into the pad. Instead of going into the PC.

Also, PS5 players will be familiar with the built-in mic on the Controller and the mute button that shows orange when muted. This mic can also be used. To get it to work, you'll need to go to your Windows sound settings and switch the input field to the dual sense. You now have a mic you can toggle on and off anytime.

And lastly. The trackpad. It does work on a PC when using Steam. But to get it to work, you need to jump into Steam's settings, go to Controller, and then change the general controller settings to dual sense. Now, you can use the trackpad to navigate your windows just like a mouse.
