Vivo X90 Pro - A Phone That You Need To know!
/So many people stick to what they know when it comes to phones. And that is ok, but some of those same people are inadvertently missing out on some best smartphone cameras ever made...they might not be seeing the bigger picture.
And that is the theme of this video. This is the Vivo X90 pro, a dark horse in the smartphone camera race. And when I show you the photos side by side vs the Pixel 7 pro & iPhone 14 pro max. Try not to discriminate & just assess them at their face value...and if you do that, you will truly see the value of this Phone.
But first, let us unbox this new Vivo X90 pro global edition & run through its unique attributes & the key things that you probably want to know. And then, we'll compare this to what many consider the best.
First out of the box is the Phone. You'll notice that it's got this nice Vegan Leather back in Legendary black. This was inspired by materials often used on pro DSLR cameras. The button placements are on the right. It does have dual speakers and an IR blaster on top. And some print that says pro photography.
It has a dual sim tray but is not a hybrid, so it has no expandable memory. But there is some good news about the memory we will return to. The screen is curved, and there is a snappy optical fingerprint reader behind the scenes...and 2D face unlock is possible here if you were wondering.
And take a look at this camera module. See that reflective line there that says co-engineered by Zeiss & Xtreme imagination. Well whoever came up with this explanation for the camera module design definitely has that, because Vivo says. The dividing line represents the Horizon, the skyline, and the camera module represents the sun rising over it. I'm not making this up. This is straight from Vivo's reviewer's guide. And apparently, the structural layout and camera placement on the back follow the golden ratio.
Which is a well-known camera grid layout used for composing shots in professional photography. And you can see that's what Vivo is really leaning into here. Pro Photography.
Now I'm no pro, but anyone can see that the Camera module on the Vivo X90 pro looks like the barrel of the DSLR camera & is apologetically large. And it does rise above the rest when it comes to this. If it had some tread around the edges, you could fit additional lenses onto it...And here are the sensor specs.
And next, out of the box, we have a transparent silicon case. Better to have one & not need it than to need one and not have it...and the same goes for this 120-watt power brick & the capable cable... and side note, some of you will already know this, but not all USB C cables are created equal. But you can rest assured this one supports 120Watts charging speeds.
And takes me nicely onto Speed and power. Which can, of course, be the solution to many things in life. And in this case, when it comes to battery, It is a 4870mAh cell & the provided charger can take the Vivo X90 pro from zero to 50% in just 8 minutes. Of course, continuous rapid charging is a fast way to deteriorate a battery's lifespan. So there is a more sensible balanced charging mode for everyday use which gets you from zero to 100 in 29 minutes.
But if you want to go full speed until the wheels fall off, you'll be happy to know the Vivo X90 pro has been endorsed by TUV Rheinland and holds their safe fast-charge certificate. Do you know what? Let's see how much heat we can see when we charge rapidly. So that you can visualise it for yourself.
There are three key things people value the most regarding smartphones. It's the battery, display & camera & I will tell you right now. This Phone is strong in all areas, but the camera in the Vivo X90 pro is its superpower. And before I show you how it stacks up against the champions from Apple & Google.
You got to take a quick look at this display & learn about some of the premium components that Vivo have opted for here. The display is FHD+ 6.78 inch 1260 by 2800 - Amoled from Samsung Display with 300Hz touch sampling & up to 120HZ refresh rate and dial that in right now.
Regarding colour accuracy, this screen has HDR10+ certification & can display 100% of the DCI P3 colour gamut. If you have no idea what that means, just know this. It has very, very good colour with regards to its colour accuracy. There is also some new tech here that is not visible to the naked eye. Vivo calls it Q9. The Q9 luminescent material is used to reduce harmful blue light & reduce the display's power usage.
Let us run through a couple more stand-out features, and then we'll dive into the all-seeing eyes on this device. So when I looked at the spec sheet and saw that Vivo went with 12GB LPDDR5X ram & 256 GB UFS 4.0 on the base, I was happy. Because these are the fastest, amazingly smart, state-of-the-art components a manufacturer can get their hands on right now. This means read & writes speeds will be incredible, resulting in shorter load & install times and faster data transfer...it's going to make the Phone quick.
And on top of that. The X90 pro has the most powerful MediaTek chip to date onboard. The Dimensity 9200 4nm chip's cortex X3 super core can run a clock speed of 3.05GHz. Again, if this is nothing to you, all you need to know is that this is top-tier performance. And with great power and performance must come great responsibility for the phones cooling systems. And the Vivo X90 Pro is equipped with the most extensive vapour cooling system that Vivo has ever used on their pro series. We're talking about 24 heat dissipation layers.
But listen, here. I don't want to bore you to death with all this geek speak. Maybe, it'll make more sense If I just show you. Let's see where this places in the Antutu Benchmark leaderboard & at the same time, lets see how it handles the heat.

Ok, now, the moment you've been waiting for it's the Pixel 7 pro Vs the iPhone 14 Pro Max vs X90 pro camera, which has been co-engineered with Zeiss optics. Now, visited Zeiss HQ in Munich and got a look at their camera shooting range & got a lot of insight into how they do this stuff. This is where I got the idea to get one of these lens calibration charts.
Long story short. Zeiss tests many variations of the camera modules and selects only the best. And see that T* marking here on the camera module. That's the Zeiss stamp of approval when it comes to lens coatings. And there are actual glass elements here. All of these physical attributes. Reduce ghosting and unwanted camera flares, and chromatic aberrations. Making your photos clear & realistic. And one last thing you need to know about is Vivo's V2 chip, a dedicated silicon onboard that improves photography and provides visual enhancements. And I could bang on about this for a long time but. It's better to show you that video.
