OnePlus 13R vs OnePlus 13 Camera Comparison

Pic 1. Primary Camera

So, instead of me trying to dictate to you which photo looks best and why…or pushing my own narrative. I'm going to comment on some of my observations quickly. And then hand it over to you to pick your winner. Use the arrow at the side of each picture to find out which phone to what photo.

So this is the first picture. There are some subtle differences in colour tone. The photo on the left is slightly cooler; you can notice that on the metal floor.

The centre photo is clearly the brightest, but it is too bright. The image on the right is more contrasty, slightly darker overall, and has a warmer tone. And the other notable thing here is, yes, I'd blink at the exact moment the photo on the left was taken & there are some goddamn photo bombers in the background.

But…this is a good thing. You'll see why. The photo bombers were a good thing because now we can see which has the best AI clean-up tool, AI eraser.

These tools on the OnePlus phones are off-device AI & won't work without the internet, whereas the iPhone AI appears to work on the device. The advantage of off-device AI is it can improve dramatically over time because it's not dependent on the phone hardware, and upgrades can be made remotely. The downside is the photos aren't entirely as private. Now listen, the OnePlus devices have another very interesting and handy AI camera tool that the iPhone does not… you'll see it in action if you stick around.

Picture 2. Ultra-wide

Ok, now the ultra-wide. There are a couple of key aspects to look at here. There are bright lights in the shit, which one is handling that the best. Is there some text in the shot that is easiest to read?

And, of course, look at the colour difference. I did access this at the time, and I can tell you which is the most colour-accurate based on the colour of the concrete…but first, you let me know which one looks the best. So, when standing there looking at the photos on the three phone screens, it was evident that the actual concrete colour was the closest to the OnePlus 13.

Picture 3. Macro Mode

So, I saw this in a Swarovski shop. There's an entire shopping centre beneath the buildings in Canary Wharf. Yes, Master Yoda, it is.

Anyway, I threw this one here because it's the most likely photo to throw you off. Take a look, turn off your guidance systems and use the force. Which Macro photo looks the nicest? Did the OnePlus 13R surprise you here…it surprised me.

Picture 4. Macro again

So, I did want to see if the same thing would happen in a less well-lit setting, so here's another Macro. I won't comment on this one, I'll leave it up to you.

Picture 5. Flowers

Alright, here is a bunch of flowers and a great photo to see which phone captures the most detail. So, let's zoom into a part of the photo that the three phones are all locked onto.

Here's how it looks magnified by nearly 400%. The three phones are all close. But what do you think?

Picture 6. Rolex Window Shot

Ok, here is a watch I may never be rich enough to afford. It's a twenty-five grand Rolex. And the reason I took this one is one reason only.

This is to show that other AI editor tricks are on the OnePlus phones. So this was taken through a window, and you can even see the reflection of the phones in the image right here. But after the fact, you can go into the AI editor and use the remove reflections tool, which is how it looks. Pretty impressive, right? Maybe we'll see this come to the iPhone…in around 5 years.

Picture 7. Selfie portrait

So here's a selfie portrait. And yes, it was damn cold. That's why my nose is so red again. Edge detection and colour tone are areas to focus on. Which looks the best here?

Picture 8. Rear Camera Portrait

Alright, here's the portrait mode with the rear cameras. Again, focus on the edge detection and how natural the blurry background effect looks. As well as the colour tone and details on my jacket.

Did you think the centre photo was the iPhone due to the warm tones in this one? I know I did. Anyway…I'm looking at my watch because you know what time it is.

It's time for a quick stabilisation video test, a zoom test, and some food, and then we'll get into lower light shots.

Pic 9. Korean Chicken

I usually get a burger for these camera comparisons…and I did. Only this one was chicken and more like a whole chicken between a couple of burger buns.

Anyway, the lighting was low and there were lots of colourful lights around. So, it's challenging for the AI camera to figure out this photo. Take a look and let me know. Which Korean chicken looks the tastiest?

The OnePlus 13 may have overexposed a little here. Would you agree with that? Interestingly, the 13R didn't, but it did get the colours wrong…but let me know which one you like? And see those likes in the back there…

Picture 10. Colours & Lights

Here they are up close. I figured this would be a good colour test and a great way to test out how the phone handles bright lighting in a darker setting.

Again, I got a second opinion on this immediately after taking the photo. So I know which is the most accurate colour to the human eye…but first, you tell me which looks the best as a photo.

I can confirm, purely based on the purple light, that the only phone to perfectly nail that colour was the OnePlus 13.

Picture 11. Night HDR

Ok, here's a nice test of the camera's HDR at night when there are lights in the shot. The two main things I want you to focus on here are how well the phones handle that strip light and how the overall picture looks…ignore my ugly mug in the middle…as I was kind of cold and pissed off at this point.

Picture 12. Night Ultrawide

Alright, here's an ultra-wide night. Look for the lens flares and the sharpness of the image, and again, look for which looks the best as a whole.

Picture 13. Ultra-wide again

Ok, this just looked so cool. Kind of a blade runner esk. And it worked the best in ultra-wide. There's a very interesting difference in colour here, and this one might throw you off the trail if you've been back to one specific phone. Choose your champion.

Here are a few more shots I will leave to you. And I want to thank you for making it this far into the video. And if you are still here. Just know this, I appreciate you guys the most.
