Vivo V40 vs V40 Pro - What's The Difference?
/So I have two new Vivo phones here, the V40 & V40 Pro, and in this video. I'll be highlighting the key differences between them. They're in the upper mid-tier range, with ProPro being the more premium.
What’s In The Box?
So the first difference is that with the regular V40 model, you get the phone, a protective case, and the USB C charging, as well as the usual literature and the ejector pin. And with the ProPro here in Europe, you get all of that & the Vivo Flash charge 80-watt power brick.
Regarding colours, both phones are available in Meteor Blue, Moonlight white and Stellar Silver. And I have a Pro model in the Stellar Silver colour. It's got this really nice metallic look to it. And you have to love Vivo's explanation of this. Here's a quote direct from Vivo.
The Stellar Silver edition masterfully integrates this eternal colour with Fluorite AG, ensuring the phone maintains its sophistication while enhancing its noble elegance.
Now, the V40 is actually available in a couple more colours. You can get the V40 in Sunglow Peach and this colour Nebula Purple. And here's Vivo's explanation of this.
Nebula Purple - comes from the mysterious and elegant hues found deep within the cosmos, radiating a profound allure. You gotta love these descriptions.
Weight Difference & Size
Now, phone form factors are almost identical in every way except one. We'll come to that in a minute. Both phones have a super slim design at just 7.58mm. Both have stereo speakers. However, there is a slight weight difference, with the Pro model being 2 grams heavier.
Despite the slim frames on these two phones, they both have the same surprisingly large 5500mAh battery. And even though you don't get the charger with the regular model… it also supports the 80-watt flash charging speed.
Displays
The display tech on both phones is identical. With them both rocking a Curved 6.78" 120Hz Oled with a 2800 X 1260 resolution. And a peak brightness of 4500 nits and 1200 nits local brightness. They Are HRD10+, and both have in-display optical fingerprint readers.
Different Chips
Here's where things get a little different. The base model on the V40 starts with 8GB RAM and 128GB and goes up to 12GB and 512GB ROM. The Pro base model starts with 12GB RAM and 256GB ROM.
And here's a significant difference between the devices. The Vivo V40 uses the mid-tier Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset. Which is arguably the best midrange chipset out there. However, if you spend more time, go with the ProPro. You get the flagship MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ chip.
Both phones have ultra-large VC cooling chambers to keep the processors cool under pressure. So, let's see how they do in a head-to-head benchmark test.
BENCHMARK
So, the Vivo V40 Pro was a clear winner in processing and graphics. Aside from the additional colour options, here's a win for the V40 regular edition.
The V40 Pro supports Bluetooth 5.3, which is good. Surprisingly, the V40 standard edition has a slightly newer Bluetooth 5.4 chip. Some say the difference is negligible. But it is newer nonetheless.
Camera
Now, that form factor difference I mentioned earlier is If you look at the camera module design. Vivo calls this the Gemini ring. Vivo says this is Inspired by the beautiful and mysterious symmetry of the Gemini stars in the sky. They get me every time with these amazing explanations.
Something quite unique to Vivo is its Aura lighting. It is present here and upgraded now with an extra 33% brightness. It is the same on both models, but you've probably already noticed that the ProPro has an additional camera.
They both have a 50 mp primary with OIS and 50 mp ultra-wide. And that additional camera on the Vivo V40 Pro is a 50mp telephoto.
In fact, there are some different camera sensors used behind the scenes. The primary one on the Vivo V40 is a 50MP Samsung Isocell, and the Pro model uses a more premium Sony IMX921. The exclusive telephoto on the ProPro is also a Sony sensor. It's the IMX816, to be precise. All of the cameras have been co-engineered by Zeiss. A legendary player in the camera optics game.
So, you'll get some of the exclusive features on the Pro model. The ZEISS Cinematic Portrait Video, 50x ZEISS Ultra HD Zoom, and some additional Zeiss Bokeh modes in the Planar style & Sonner style bokeh.
The regular model also has a ton of Zeiss bokeh modes to play with. So you will be satisfied.
There's also a sensor difference on the selfie camera. Both have a 50mp sensor; however, the Pro model does use an upgraded Samsung Isocell JN1 sensor. And I'll let you guys decide how much of a difference that makes to selfies.
And the amount of camera features here on these two phones is quite incredible. Honestly, I'll need another 10 min video to run through all of the features available on these Vivo phones.
I'll post the launch day prices in the top pinned comment once Vivo officially announces them. Let me know if you'd like to see that and which one you believe is the better value.
