Motorola Rizr - A Phone That Rises Above The Rest?

As smartphones transform and the next generations roll out…don't be surprised to see phones like this, the Motorola rizla. I mean, Rizr roll up at the door.

This is one of many generations of this kind of verticle rollable. This is a good sign that Motorola isn't ready to roll over and give up on this concept.

Here's why you might like it. The screen wraps around so that it's viewable from the back. This means it can be used as a viewfinder in its closed position. On the front side, the phone is entirely usable when closed, but you get the entire smartphone experience when fully extended upwards.

But what impressed the most is that there's no cutout or punch hole for the selfie camera.

Two concerns that spring to most people's minds is how fragile the P OLED might be. Particularly if the phone is dropped on the bottom edge. It does have a case. There are guard rails on either side of the screen, so that should provide some protection.

The more significant concern for some is the internal motor mechanism. What's the power trade-off, and can it withstand the shock. Here's the question: Do the positives outweigh the possible negatives. The positives are the space-saving.

One big positive is no unsightly crease. For that's the number one problem with rollable. Another significant advantage is how small it is. The whole android experience, widgets, apps, and even keyboards adapt dynamically to their current state.

And a rolled-up state is something I'm in right now after walking around the MWC for three days carrying a hefty camera bag on my back.
