Huawei GT5 Pro Vs GT5 vs Watch Ultimate - What's The Difference?
/Here are 4 of the new 2024 Huawei watches I will be highlighting the upgrades made here. But first lets run through some of the key need to know info on these.
And it is important to know that all these watches are completely compatible with iOS and Android devices.
Interestingly the Huawei Health app is now officially on the Apple App Store, on Android you do need to download the APK from the official Huawei website.
Fears and motivators
Now, listen if you’re tired of 2 to three day battery life at best on your current smartwatch or fitness tracker, and you want maybe the most accurate GPS and health monitoring watch for the gym. Well then you should stick around and check out the upgrades here…
Design GT5 Pro
And here is the GT5 Pro 46mm £329 3 colours black, brown leather, blue woven. And there’s also the GT5 Pro titanium strap for £399.
So let’s start with the design and build quality of these three Huawei watches. So the Huawei Watch GT5 Pro 46mm has a 466x466 resolution AMOLED display. 325 ppi and it looks very sharp.
And there's almost a kind of 3D effect on this display with its thick sapphire glass on top. The back is protected by a Nano Ceramic casing which I'm told takes 7 days to make.
It's still got that really nice clickable and rotating crown for navigation & a dedicated button to jump straight into the workout modes. And of course, this menu can be customised to just show your favourite workouts. Just like before, there are quick-release mechanisms for the straps.
The shape is quite unique to Huawei smartwatches. It has a TC4 titanium alloy octagonal frame wrapped around the circular display. It's very classy in my opinion. There is a difference between this version of the Pro and the Titanium version.
With the titanium version having a blue and red inner bezel set beneath the glass. And even though this one has a more formal look. Also, the bracelet is the main difference here. One of the nice things about this is each link on the lower part of the band has quick-release mechanisms.
Both now have an official IP69K water and dust proof rating and the K in this ingress protection rating stands for Konenswasser that's German for Condensation Water.
Put simply it's more resistant to condensation than regular IP68-rated watches out there. And both can survive deep sea diving of depths of 40 metres. But you won't catch me down there…too many sharks.
GT5 41mm
This is the Huawei GT5 41mm £229, 5 colours black, white leather, gold Milanese, brown woven and this one, blue fluoroelastomer
Now the 41mm GT5 is a more durable & more elegant design. With narrowed bezels, this one has a stainless steel bezel. There's also a nice pattern carved into it. And the back just like the pro model is a nanocrystal ceramic.
The user controls are also identical with the clickable rotating crown and shortcut button. The quick release on the straps is similar to the pro but of course, the straps aren't quite as wide.
The glass up front is the same sapphire glass and the display resolution is the same although because it is a smaller 1.32” panel it is more pixel dense. While the 41mm does have the same IP69K Kondenswasser rating, this one is good for swimming but not suitable for 40m deep sea diving. Also being that it’s a smaller watch the battery life is also a bit smaller…but despite that the battery life here is up to 7 days.
Watch Ultimate
This is the redesigned Huawei Watch Ultimate £749. I’ll get into what’s changed and upgraded as we go through this video.
So this is the new version of the Huawei Watch Ultimate. And really this could have been called the Ultimate Golf Addition. This new version of the Ultimate has a new colour scheme with white and green on its dual colour nanotech ceramic bezel and green strap. I did make a dedicated video on the original Ultimate watch so I won't go too in-depth with all the design aspects here. But here's a quick summary of why Huawei call it the ultimate.
Its casing is made from a zirconium-based Liquid Metal making it 4.5x times stronger than stainless steel and around 15% lighter. The crown is titanium alloy and it’s got sapphire glass on the display. Which is 15” LTPO amoled.
And this one has a 10 ATM rating. So you can go as deep as 100 metres below sea level and they do throw in an extra long strap so it’ll fit over your wetsuit.
And there is an additional button on the ultimate. As well as a bunch of scuba diving safeguards. And it also has that 14-day battery life. 60 mins recharge time on all watches.
The Upgrades
Now, let’s dive into the upgrades. The first significant update is the expanded messaging capabilities. You can now reply to messages from SMS, WhatsApp, Instagram, Facebook, Skype, Signal, Telegram, and Viber, compared to previously only being able to read notifications. Additionally, if you're using Android, the keyboard has been upgraded, offering voice-to-text functionality and a full-quality keyboard for typing. The predictive text feature has also been enhanced for a smoother experience.
We’ve made improvements to the user interface as well, refining the animations and adjusting colours and sizes to enhance readability, particularly during workouts. Another great new feature is offline maps, which now include contour lines, allowing you to track elevation while running or hiking, a fantastic addition for outdoor enthusiasts.
Other new features include the introduction of a screenshot tool and an emotional health tracking feature. The default 41mm panda face on the watch now reflects your current emotional state, making the feature visually interactive. Additionally, there's a new trail running feature that tracks your route even off-road. It places checkmarks along your path so if you get lost, you can retrace your steps using these markers.
For golf enthusiasts, there's a brand new golf mode, featured on all Pro watches this year. This model includes a driving range feature to help improve your swing tempo on both the upswing and downswing. With access to over 1,500 golf courses worldwide, which can be downloaded directly to the watch, you can view detailed course layouts, including trees, fairways, bunkers, water hazards, and distances to the hole.
The app even lets you list your clubs and advises which club to use based on your distance from the green. Additionally, the golf mode displays wind direction and speed, contour lines for slopes, and offers post-game analysis to help you improve your game. These upgrades truly enhance both the fitness and lifestyle functionalities of the device, making it an even more versatile companion for both workouts and leisure activities.
So if you are into golfing, this is a pretty big deal. Now all of these new software additions are nice, but the biggest upgrade this year to the GT five range is the upgrades that they've made to true sense, which is the software that works behind the sensor array on the watches. So something that makes a massive difference is their new cutting-edge gloss darkening technology.
So this actually allows the light source at the back of the watch to penetrate a bit deeper into the skin layers and put simply, kind of reduces any kind of crosstalk between the light sources. And this gives the health tracking accuracy a boost of around 20%. Also, these watches have always a sunflower GPS array around the watch face, because when you're running and you're swimming, or you're doing things like that, the watch is not always going to be facing the sky.
And using the sunflower method, they've improved the GPS significantly, probably to the point where these might be the very best smartwatches out there today. So the GPS, compared to the previous version has improved 40% when it comes to route accuracy. So literally, if you're running down one side of the street on the way out and then on the other side of the street on the way back, it will know what side of the street you were on.
Is that accurate? Also, the distance accuracy is increased by 30% and the pace accuracy has also increased by 20%. So if you do want something that is very accurate and you are running a swimmer or anything like that, you're going to have much more accurate results at the end of your workout. Also, some upgrades to the software and the hardware in the sensor array allows for much faster blood oxygen readings.
Had. The ECG measurement tool is now much, much more accurate and very close to medical grade. So put simply, what we've put ten years of R&D investment money into making sure that these smartwatches, some of the very best when it comes to health tracking and measurements. So there we go. We've got upgraded material, upgraded water resistance, upgrades to the health measurement and tracking and upgraded software and features.
And quite specifically, the gold feature is a massive new addition to the new Pro watches. You don't get that on the regular 41 mil, and whilst the 41 mil is still very accurate when it comes to health tracking and measurement, it's a bit more of a casual-looking watch, and maybe this one might be more for the ladies.
Now there are tons more Huawei watches out there right now. Let me know if you guys want to see any more Huawei content from me. If there's any questions you have about these watches, let me know in the comments. And if you do go deep sea diving, watch out for those sharks.
