Qualcomm MWC 2023 - 5G Beamed From The Stars
When it comes to ever-evolving tech, one thing is clear. There is a focus on improving the quality of communications. Quality Communications. Qualcomm. That is the name of the game, and Qualcomm is a star player when it comes to smartphone tech!
Quite literally. Because future phones & other intelligent devices rocking Qualcomm chips will soon support Qualcomm Satellite. Do you realise what this means? You could text anyone with a snapdragon phone... anywhere on the face of this earth, but from the back corner of my local supermarket because nobody will ever get a signal back there. And also because to use the Snapdragon satellite messaging, you need a line of sight to the heavens.
And this new functionality is made possible thanks to the commercially available LEO constellation satellite network. And will be dependent on future Qualcomm 5G modems-rf systems.
Now, listen here. It's early days, and the smartphone manufacturers' offerings regarding the Snapdragon satellite will vary. So we will have to wait and see...but here's the game changer. Word on the street is that Qualcomm has plans to roll out 5G Non-Terrestrial Networks (NTN)... This is like having faster-than-landline WiFi beamed to your Snapdragon device from the Sky!
Qualcomm® FSM ™100 5G RAN Platform - Schneider Electric And Capgemini Collaborate
When we hear people talk about 5G we immediately think of smartphones. But 5G connectivity has so many more applications. For example, the Qualcomm FSM 100 5G RAN platform. It is designed for industrial applications. Imagine a massive warehouse or shipping port where all the heavy machinery can be operated wirelessly on private 5G network, which means the equipment can be automated using Ai or controlled remotely using extended reality devices… so maybe one day, even industrial workers could work from home.
Snapdragon X75, X72, and X35 5G Reference Designs
Now while we are talking about extended reality. These devices can also benefit from 5G connectivity. Qualcomm has announced various reference designs 5G modems that can be fitted into these devices. The Snapdragon X75, X72 and X35. Put simply, these tiny RF modems speed can communicate incredibly fast, which they will need to do, especially when it comes to operating machinery wirelessly. And of course, precise positioning is also key, and that is where machine learning comes into play.
Imagine one day, this tech could be used to control humanoid robotics on spaceships and space stations…I know that idea seems out there…and people might call me crazy but trust me when I say it's a real possibility and a real use case for this tech one day.
Qualcomm® X100 5G RAN ( open radio access network )
But let's come back to earth for a little bit. We've talked about evolution of communication from the stars and between man and machines. There has also been a significant jump forward in open radio access network 5G technology. O RAN for short. Qualcomm has partnered with DELL to create what's being called a vDU platform. It's a powerful PCIe card designed for networks providers.
Before I lose you with all this complicated tech jargon…this new tech will take the performance that your network provider...currently provides up a level.
And when this Dell card is combined with Mavenir's next generation, OpenBeam, massive MIMO (mMIMO) 32TRX, Active Antenna Unit (AAU) that features the Qualcomm QRU100 5G RAN Platform. And after that when power efficiency of perfomance Super QAM kicks in d we start seeing GigaMimo & Sub terahertz tech roll out Now we are really talking… or should I. Now we are really communicating.
Mobile internet is about to get faster. And word on the street is 5G enhanced, and 6G is on the way…and wait until you hear and see about this.
Standalone Stable Diffusion on a Phone
Right now, we know Ai as a cloud-based service that we can ask questions to & get to create works of art or even get it to do our homework. Well, now Qualcomm has proven that Ai can exist and function locally on device without an internet connection. In their demo you can see a version 'stable diffusion' a powerful Ai running on a snapdragon gen 2 handset... It can think & it can create.
But the idea of this kind Ai on device isn't just about art and doing your homework for you. It's more about the optimisation of better quality communications... which is the path to greater innovation.
So trust me when I say this. Maybe not today, and maybe not tomorrow, but soon. You're phone one day will have a mind of its own.
