How to Become a Tech YouTuber 2019 - 5 Things you should know
/So in this video, I'm going to give you 5 easy steps with tips & tricks to start a tech YouTube channel in 2019.
Step 1 - equipment
Now don't stall the launch of your tech youtube channel. If you don't yet have a beautiful 4K camera, lighting, tripods and audio gear don't worry. Just get started with your phone.
Some of my most successful videos to date were shot solely on a mobile phone.
At the beginning of your journey speed of delivery, staying consistent and picking the right content should be your priority.
Trust me on this, You can make an awesome video just using your phone's cameras and mics. However, I would suggest you pick up a cheap tripod and maybe a DJI Osmo 2 if you want to make cinematic type content.
A couple of small items I would recommend is a small tripod with a phone mount and fluid head. The Joby Gorillapod is a great little product and will help you a lot. Also the DJI Osmo Mobile 2 is and amazing gimble that will improve you cinematic shots and make videos shot on your phone look incredible professional.

Once your rolling and the subscribers are coming in you can start upgrading your equipment.
Step 2 - Pick your Niche
I made the mistake early on by experimenting and diversifying my content too much. You should not do this.
Pick a specific topic, or even a specific brand or type to Tech and stick to it. You can change direction slightly at a later date, but believe me, learn from my mistakes you will grow much faster if you pick a very niche and stick to it.
A good example is Jim's review room. He is known for audio. Or Kai W who is known for camera reviews.
Step 3 - Compete
Now I always thought in the beginning that if I could just get the latest iPhone or Galaxy device early that would give me the edge.
The truth is that this is not the case. Yes, you will have a chance, but because all the big tech guys have a proven track record for audience retention and viewership. YT will always prioritize their content first and yours will likely be lost..somewhere on page 10.
So the key no matter what video you are making is to pick your topic and keywords that aren't too competitive.
A tool I wish someone had told me about when I started is Tubebuddy. I highly recommend investing a little money on this because it will speed up your growth considerably here on YouTube.
Using the keyword explorer you can find topics that you can compete for. With the paid 'pro' account Tubebuddy will provide a weighted score on how likely you are to perform. It's a super powerful tool & I highly recommend it.
that you can make videos around that, where you actually stand a chance of competing for page 1 on YT. It's super powerful there's a link in the description...get that. Trust me you will need it.
Step 4 - Products
So you want to be a tech reviewer...but you can't get the tech to review. The best way to begin is by just sharing your opinions on products from an outside perspective. Without even owning products you can find press release info and images that you can use in your videos.
You will be surprised at how many views you can accumulate just by talking about products. If one of these types of videos does particularly well for you, you can then reach out to the manufacturer and show them how much traffic you have driven to their product. This way they much more likely to provide you a loan sample.
Step 5 - First Impression
When it comes to your 1st impressions on YouTube it really comes down to your title and your thumbnail. Both are essential to your success. When a viewer scrolls through their YouTube feed your thumbnail must stand out from the crowd.
This is so important! If you are not a graphic designer you can find plenty of templates that will help you. Canva.com is one great resource that will really help you. Go check it out.
A really great tool to use to help you with your titles and descriptions and tags is MorningFa.me. This is another super powerful tool that will really help you lock down the meta-details of your content and give you an amazing start.
So there you go! 5 things I wish I knew when I started on YouTube. Things have changed a lot in 2019 and they will continue to change in the future, nevertheless, the steps I mentioned above will always be relevant. So use them and start today & stick to the plan.
